Our products are hand-made in our studio in the Dublin Mountains. From a piece of tree to the finished product.
Primitive Boards started in 2018 by making unique cutting boards and charcuterie boards. That allowed us to gain experience and our style in the beautiful craft of woodworking. That same style and painstaking manufacturing process are now imprinted into everything we do. From dining tables to serving platters.
Material | Maple Wood |
Size | 53 x 31 x 4 cm |
Weight | 3kg |
This board was made with Sunday dinners in mind. It is ideal for slicing and carving juicy joints of meat. Maple wood is widely used in commercial and home kitchens thanks to its durability and natural anti-microbal properties. It was made to handle heavy cutting & slicing at your BBQ party or in a commercial setting.
This board is hand-made in our studio in the Dublin Mountains. From piece of timber to finished cutting board. We even make our own wood finish.
What separates our chopping boards from the sea of other boards is our painstaking manufacturing process and testing. Each board is strengthened with two beech wood rods across the wood grain structure. This prevents future splitting and warping. Each type of cutting board is tested by professional chefs.
We only sell chopping boards we are confident that will last a lifetime. However should your Primitive Board get damaged we will fix it or replace it free of charge.
Each cutting board has four feet which makes it safe to use on any kitchen surfaces. The feet are partially embedded into the bottom of the board so it doesn't make the board too high and uncomfortable for cutting
Deep juice groove prevents juices from spilling onto your counter top.
Each cutting board comes with two large handles on its side that slowly fade into the bottom of the board. This way it's easy to lift the board no matter how big your hands are (I'm weirdly proud of this feature)
We only use wood glue certified for indirect contact with food. Your cutting board comes finished with our own blend of 100% natural oils & waxes
Though it may seem counter intuitive to choose a wooden surface that can’t be heat sterilized over a plastic surface that can, the proof is in the science. Wooden boards use capillary action to absorb bad bugs from the cutting surface pores. Once bacteria is trapped inside the wood’s cells it suffocates, cut-off from the oxygen it needs to survive.
We work with a reforestation organization Trees On The Land. For every board you buy from us they will receive a financial support to put one more native tree in the ground. They have planted over 1 million trees in Ireland and Northern Ireland since 2013. Their vision is to establish tree cover and woodland in rural and urban areas that will grow for many years and provide valuable resources, beneficial ecosystem services and a lasting legacy for future generations.
Care instructions | Even the best cutting boards can start to show signs of wear and tear if you don't look after them properly. Your wooden board needs a little extra help every once in a while to make it look like new again. Wooden cutting boards that are not looked after may start to warp, crack or split. How can you tell when it’s time to wax? Using your fingertips, sprinkle a few drops of water over your board. If the board has been properly and freshly seasoned and sealed, water will bead up on its surface. This is a good indication that nothing is going to penetrate it. Over time, its water-repellent qualities will start to diminish, and water droplets will spread further and further out, clinging to the wood. Eventually, the water will look like it’s about to get absorbed into the wood even as it first lands on it. That’s a sign that you’re ready for another layer of cutting board conditioner.Never put this board in a dishwasher. Wash your cutting board immediately after use with warm soapy water on both sides. Oil & Wax your board when wood shows signs of drying out or at least once a month |
